The CHSL Challenge: Two Tiers to Tame

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam, or SSC CHSL, to hire personnel for various government posts. The selection process has two tiers.

Tier-1: This computer-based online exam has four sections that assess your fundamental knowledge and skills. These are General Intelligence and reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and comprehension, and General Awareness. Each section contains 50 marks, for a total of 200.

Tier-2: In this tier, there is a separate English Language paper (descriptive) and another skill test depending on whichever post one had applied for. Both papers are mostly pen-and-paper based.
