CDS COURSES
The Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam is a prestigious examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. The CDS exam is held twice a year and serves as the entry point for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), and Officers' Training Academy (OTA).
The CDS exam is open to both unmarried male and female candidates who meet the eligibility criteria set by the UPSC. The exam consists of a written examination followed by an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).
The written examination of the CDS comprises three papers: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The English paper evaluates candidates' English language skills, while the General Knowledge paper assesses their awareness of current affairs, history, geography, and other related subjects. The Elementary Mathematics paper tests candidates' mathematical abilities. The exam is conducted in an offline (pen and paper) format.
Candidates who clear the written examination are called for the SSB interview, which includes intelligence and personality tests, group discussions, and personal interviews. The SSB interview aims to evaluate candidates' officer-like qualities, leadership potential, and suitability for a career in the armed forces.
Successful candidates who clear the written examination and SSB interview are then admitted to their respective training academies: IMA, INA, AFA, or OTA. After completing the training, candidates are commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force.
